Cleveland Browns Quarterback Situation Takes Another Turn
The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback scene has gotten even more interesting. Earlier in the day, head coach Kevin Stefanski mentioned that both Greg Newsom and Miles Garrett would be absent from practice. As it turns out, Chedure Sanders also missed drills because of shoulder pain, although it’s unclear when exactly his discomfort started.
Once considered a top-five draft pick, Sanders has faced a somewhat chaotic offseason. Eventually, he was chosen in the fifth round—still a significant achievement, especially following the selection of Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
Throughout training camp, Sanders primarily took snaps with the third-string team, but he did face the first-team defense for the first time earlier this week. He returned to practice on Friday, albeit with limited capacity, due to a hamstring injury sustained when he was struck by Kenny Pickett. The Browns acquired Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason.
In the mix is also Joe Flacco, while Deshaun Watson continues his recovery from an Achilles injury that has plagued him for some time.
Recently, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam stated that it was General Manager Andrew Berry’s call to draft Sanders. He reflected on the draft, saying if someone had told him that Sanders would be their choice, he wouldn’t have believed it. Haslam underscored that the final decision ultimately rested with Berry, specifically regarding who would start and how the team would be structured, signaling Stefanski’s input in the process as well.
Looking ahead, if everything aligns, Sanders is set to make his debut in the Browns’ first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers this Friday. Fans are surely eager to see how this unfolds.
