Kamala Harris Reflects on 2024 Presidential Campaign

Kamal Harris, the former vice president, appeared on “The Evening Show” Thursday. There, she acknowledged that, looking back, she might have approached her 2024 presidential campaign differently. However, she didn’t specify any particular changes she would make.

When asked about this, Harris teased her upcoming book, “107 Days,” suggesting readers may find answers there. Yet, she didn’t dive into specifics, instead sharing a lengthy tribute to her campaign team. “There are things I would do differently, but please read the book again,” she told host Stephen Colbert. She mentioned her extensive experience coaching others and stressed that success is a collective effort.

During this interview, she was pressed to identify who stands out among Democrats. Yet, she sidestepped the question. Harris did express appreciation for her team, stating they “left everything on the field” and declared, oddly, that she has “no regrets.” It left me wondering, though—did she really mean it?

She provided what seemed like a personal perspective on her experience, remarking how deeply invested her team was, emphasizing that they always gave their all. “I don’t regret a day,” she reiterated, although her statements seemed somewhat contradictory regarding her feelings about the campaign.

Colbert transitioned the conversation away from this confusion. When he asked her when she sensed she was ready to step up as the Democratic candidate, especially after President Biden’s lackluster performance in the first debate of 2024, her response was cautious. She expressed her respect for Biden and highlighted the importance of legality and honesty in leadership. “That’s where I’m leaving it,” she concluded, giving the impression that there’s a lot more to unpack but choosing not to elaborate.

After Biden’s withdrawal last July, Harris swiftly gained the Democratic nomination with no challengers, but her reflections on the whole experience seem to still linger unresolved.
