Trump Criticizes Democrats for Delays in Candidate Approvals

President Trump has once again criticized Democrats for their role in holding up the verification process for candidates in the Senate. He expressed his appreciation for Senate Republicans who are committing to stay in Washington to push through his nominations.

In a post on his platform, Trump stated, “I am extremely proud of my great Republican senators, if necessary, over the weekend and beyond, to help us make America great again.”

The president also took aim at Senate Democrats, alleging that they are making efforts to hinder capable candidates from moving forward. “If George Washington or Abraham Lincoln were to be approved, Democrats would delay the voting for as long as they can. They want our country to fail because they’ve failed,” he remarked.

Senator John Thune mentioned to reporters that considering break appointments could be a solution for the backlog of over 160 candidates waiting for approval, mostly in lower-level positions. “I think it’s all on the table,” Thune noted, adding that changes to rules might be necessary.

“Adjusting the rules would not only be helpful now but could also benefit us in the long run. However, as of now, we’re not ruling out any options,” the South Dakota Republican commented.

While GOP Senators have shown willingness to negotiate with Democrats to confirm Trump’s nominations, they also remain prepared to explore other avenues if discussions falter. “If you can’t reach an agreement, you have to look at alternatives, and there’s considerable support for that,” Thune said on Saturday.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer supported the Democrats’ approach, arguing that “historically bad candidates deserve a historical level of scrutiny.” He emphasized that this type of qualification issue has not been seen before, particularly under Trump.

As per reports, Thune and Schumer’s offices have been in communication this week, with the New York Senator having sent out a counterproposal on Friday.
