Jeanine Pirro Attains D.C. U.S. Attorney Position After Challenging Confirmation Battle

Janine Pirro Confirmed as U.S. Attorney for D.C.

Former Fox News host and long-time New York prosecutor, Janine Pirro, was confirmed on Saturday as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia after a contentious Senate debate. The final vote came in at 50-45.

“I feel truly blessed to receive such support from the Senate,” Pirro posted on X. “Joining the District of Columbia as its U.S. Attorney is a significant honor for me.”

Pirro, 73, faced strong opposition from Congressional Democrats who criticized President Donald Trump’s choice to nominate her for this role. She has been serving as acting U.S. Attorney since May of this year.

In her past career, Pirro was the Westchester County prosecutor for 15 years, starting as an assistant district attorney, and was elected as a judge in 1993 before she made her name in television.

Throughout her career, she has been known for her tough stance on crime and her advocacy for conservative issues. In response to support from the D.C. Police Union, Pirro stated, “Together, we will work to clean up D.C.”

During her confirmation hearing, she assured senators that she would approach her new role with “full respect for the constitution and the rule of law.”
