Marv Levy Celebrates 100th Birthday

This past Sunday marked a significant milestone as Marv Levy, the legendary former head coach of the Buffalo Bills, turned 100 years old. It’s quite the achievement, really.

On Saturday, in Canton, Ohio, a special ceremony celebrated the occasion. The Hall of Fame, with contributions from Thurman Thomas, organized the event. They also released a video tribute on Sunday to commemorate the day.

Thomas, alongside fellow Bills legends Jim Kelly, Steve Tasker, and Andre Reed, extended their birthday wishes. “I just wanted to wish you a happy 100th birthday,” Thomas said warmly. “…Love you, coach.”

Kelly expressed his disbelief, stating, “Wow, I can’t believe it. A happy 100th birthday… We are so blessed to have you. You embody what we are, the reason we wear gold jackets.”

Reed added, “Happy 100th birthday, MARV. You’re not just my coach; you’re a mentor, and a great guy. To reach 100 means you’ve done some remarkable things.”

Interestingly enough, Levy’s impact on his players is evident from the heartfelt messages shared online. Tasker remarked on Levy’s influence, saying, “Marv, I can’t tell you how much you mean to me in my life.”

Levy began his coaching career back in 1951 at a high school in Missouri. He made his way to the NFL in 1969 as a kicking coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. His first head coaching position came in 1978 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He even led the Chicago Blitz in the USFL in 1984 before joining the Bills in 1986. During his time with the Bills, they faced the heartbreak of losing four consecutive Super Bowls.

Overall, Levy’s coaching record stands at 112 wins and 70 losses with the Bills, while he had 31 wins and 42 losses with the Chiefs. Quite a journey, really.
