Dez Bryant and Roc Nation Respond to Jerry Jones
Dez Bryant and Roc Nation are expressing their frustration towards Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for involving them in the recent Micah Parsons negotiations.
Bryant described Jones as “disrespectful” and referred back to his own negotiations with the team in 2015 during a post made on Saturday. He noted, “I don’t think it’s clever to mention my name. I’ve kept quiet about a lot of unfair things, but if this is the route we’re taking, then we can dive into the details.”
He further emphasized his point, saying, “You all don’t understand the amount of stuff going on. Please don’t mention my name when discussing this.” Bryant’s remarks came after Jones acknowledged him while addressing reporters about Parsons’ trade demands, mentioning the player’s frustration with negotiations.
When asked about the latter comment, Jones, 82, responded, “When there’s a player issue, no agent can be found anywhere.” This seemed to reflect a broader commentary on the relationship dynamics between the organization and its players.
Looking back, Jones reminisced about the negotiations surrounding Bryant’s contract, which was handled by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports. “Jay-Z indicated that Dez would handle all meetings. We spent hours negotiating that contract,” Jones recalled, adding, “He made it clear that everyone in his organization was punctual.” It sounds like there was a lot of back and forth, and perhaps some frustrations on both sides.
Bryant initially signed a five-year, $70 million contract before the 2015 NFL season but was ultimately released by the team in 2018.
In response to Jones’ recent comments, Roc Nation provided a statement on Saturday, clarifying the circumstances surrounding Bryant’s contract. They asserted, “In 2015, Jerry Jones, Juan Perez, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, and Stephen Jones negotiated a five-year, $70 million deal that, at the time, was the second-largest contract for a wide receiver in NFL history. The suggestion that Mr. Carter or anyone from Roc Nation failed to return a call to Jerry Jones is not only false but also quite humorous.”
