Lewis Hamilton states ‘hopefully I’ll return’ after challenging Hungarian Grand Prix

Hamilton Reflects on Challenging Weekend in Hungary

Following a tough qualifying round at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton expressed feelings of frustration, even labeling himself as “useless.” He suggested that perhaps the Ferrari team might benefit from seeking another driver, stirring discussions within the Formula 1 community.

His critical self-assessment continued into Sunday. After finishing in 12th place during the race, Hamilton was asked about his performance, and his response left many puzzled regarding his outlook on both his racing capabilities and the future in the sport.

“When you have feelings, you have a sense. There’s a lot going on in the background, but that’s not great,” Hamilton remarked, indicating he had more on his mind than just the race itself.

When reflecting on the day, he mentioned his eagerness for the summer break, expressing relief that the race was over. “I’m happy it’s finished and I look forward to leaving,” he said in a session with media in Hungary.

Hamilton added, “I’m looking forward to coming back, hopefully coming back,” implying a somewhat ambiguous perspective on the remaining season.

In the wake of a difficult weekend, support from notable figures in the paddock emerged. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur commented on Hamilton’s state, stating, “I don’t need to motivate him. He’s frustrated, but he’s not motivated. That’s a completely different story. I can understand frustration…we’re all frustrated.”

Vasseur acknowledged that immediate reactions post-race can often be skewed and noted that there’s a shared goal among the team: “The good side of today is that you can run the pole position when you put it all together, and when you’re doing that, you can lead the first 40 laps.”

F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali also lent his support, emphasizing Hamilton’s exceptional talent. “Lewis is a gem and he’s an incredible athlete, so even if it’s a difficult moment, he’ll respond. I’m sure he’ll show why he’s here,” he stated.

Domenicali highlighted Hamilton’s drive for his eighth title, suggesting that his competitive spirit will shine through after the summer break. “He wants to achieve his eighth title and win again,” he added.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, has demonstrated he can still contend fiercely this season. Ferrari fans are hopeful to see a revitalized Hamilton return post-break, ready to engage in the ongoing competition.
