Russiagate Investigation: Key Questions Arise
With the recent handover of the Russiagate matter to the Department of Justice for a potential criminal investigation, many are wondering who might ultimately face accusations. But, according to legal scholar Hans Mahncke, that’s not the only pressing question.
In a recent episode of “The Liz Wheeler Show,” Mahncke shared insights about the crucial aspects of any criminal prosecution related to Russiagate.
Wheeler expressed her concerns regarding the repercussions for those involved. “I mean, I don’t want to see just a slap on the wrist for people who attempted to undermine a legitimately elected president using misinformation and weaponizing government against us. We need serious accountability,” she said.
This raised another question: “What exactly can these individuals be prosecuted for?” she asked.
Mahncke explained that the charges could hinge on the legal landscape, saying, “If you’re looking at jurisdictions like Washington, D.C. or Arlington, it may be challenging to secure a charge.” He emphasized the importance of jurisdiction in any potential criminal implications.
Wheeler inquired if there are ways to sidestep these jurisdictions. Mahncke responded that there are indeed various creative paths, but he pointed out that Democrats often appear better equipped to navigate these strategies. He highlighted the case of Douglas McKee, also known as “Ricky Vaughn,” who faced charges for an alleged conspiracy during the 2016 presidential election, despite having no ties to Manhattan.
“They made this connection because his Twitter feed was accessible in New York, allowing them to prosecute him there. But, you know, the actions impacted individuals across states like Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia,” Mahncke noted.
He concluded, “There are certainly ways to approach this from different angles, including jurisdictions like Florida. That’s essential; if you’re not doing that, it might just not work.”
