Jayden Daniels’ mother faced criticism from a former ESPN employee following an interview.

A former ESPN sportscaster thinks that Jayden Daniels’ mother might need to back off a bit.

Trey Wingo, a past co-host of “SportsCenter” and “Golic and Wingo,” mentioned on X that “she needs a hobby.” This comment came after Regina Jackson, the mother of the quarterback, appeared in an NFL Network interview with her son during training camp on Saturday.

Though she isn’t his agent, Jackson plays the role of his money manager, demonstrating a tight bond with Daniels.

In the interview, Daniels mentioned, “She was the first mom and she’s always there to raise me, but if I’m wrong, she’ll let me know. I’m 24 years old and I’m still a grown man, but one day I’ll have to listen to my mother.”

Jackson expressed her pride, adding, “The athlete, the guy you see, and you always need your mom.”

When asked if she’s present at the training camp daily, Jackson clarified that she isn’t.

This exchange surely caught attention; Wingo’s post got around 29,000 likes! One user responded, “I promise this isn’t what you want, Tray.” It gathered a fair amount of traction, with 953 likes.

Another comment noted, “The world of sports often documents young black athletes who are successful, but they face criticism for any missteps. It’s odd how suddenly, when there’s a strong image and a good relationship with family, people don’t want to acknowledge it.”

Yet another user posed the question, “What’s the issue with a mother and son getting along so well?”

Daniels has had an impressive rookie season, earning a Pro Bowl selection and the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The LSU product led his team to a 12-5 record and the NFC Championship Game, throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns.
