Shannon Sharpe’s Recent Legal and Financial Issues
Shannon Sharpe seems to be dealing with some financial fallout after a particularly rough year.
On a recent episode of the “Nightcap” podcast, he sued his co-host Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson for $5,900, drawing an analogy to Jerry Jones, the owner of the NFL Hall of Fame. Jones, you might remember, had just settled a $50 million lawsuit concerning serious allegations against him—something that seemed to resonate with Sharpe as he made his point.
“I’ll pay when I’m ready,” Sharpe said, mimicking Jones while referencing Johnson’s supposed debt to him. “You told me, ‘I will pay you when I’m ready.’”
Johnson responded, “Ah, no, I wasn’t saying that,” clearly taken aback.
“You did that,” Sharpe retorted. “We’re going to be a year late, and there’ll be penalties.”
Not wanting to be lumped in with Jones, Johnson assured Sharpe he would repay him. “I’m going to take care of you, baby. I’m not Jerry, so don’t compare me to him. I got you,” he insisted, somewhat humorously.
“Look, you owe it, but I need it,” Sharpe replied, glancing at his own pocket. “You know, the pockets are a bit light right now, Ocho.”
Johnson couldn’t help but break into laughter when Sharpe made that remark.
“That’s why I love you,” he said. “This is what I need; it’s just good to be back at home. Thank you.”
Interestingly, Sharpe refrained from discussing the settlement regarding the allegations against him, which are serious in nature.
The three-time Super Bowl champion recently celebrated his brother, Sterling Sharpe’s, Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio, just last weekend.
In a separate Wednesday appearance on “First Take,” Johnson mentioned he would be returning to the studio for the upcoming NFL season, signaling he’s ready to dive back into work.
Meanwhile, Sharpe has been providing commentary for ESPN since April.
He has denied all allegations of misconduct through a statement from his lawyer. The plaintiff, notably over 30 years his junior, claims that Sharpe assaulted her multiple times toward the end of 2024 and into early 2025.
Additionally, Sharpe was reportedly close to signing a deal worth over $100 million for his “Club Shay Shay” podcast after parting ways with Colin Cowherd’s podcast network.
He made his debut on “First Take” in the fall of 2023, soon after leaving FS1.
