Quarterback Shedale Sanders to Start for Browns
This week marks a significant opportunity for quarterback Shedale Sanders to impress the Browns coaching staff. The former Colorado player is set to start in the preseason opener against the Panthers on Friday night.
With both Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel out due to hamstring injuries, Sanders steps in as the starting quarterback. Reports suggest that the Browns are opting to keep veteran Joe Flacco off the field during the preseason.
Interestingly, this will be Sanders’ first chance with a first team representative since training camp began, where he only had four snaps against the first team defense last week. Adding to the mix, Tyler Huntley, who was signed recently, is expected to back up from the bench.
The Browns released an unofficial depth chart earlier, placing Sanders fourth. Flacco is currently listed as the starting quarterback, while Gabriel occupies the third spot.
Sanders has certainly caught attention, especially following a surprising fall during the NFL Draft. Initially projected to go in the first round, concerns about his attitude led him to be picked up in the fifth round instead.
He mentioned earlier this week that he’s focused on not letting outside opinions affect him. “I think if you find a way to get people to come to you, you can block out the noise,” he said.
With the game against Carolina scheduled for 7 PM on Friday, it’ll be interesting to see how Sanders performs under these circumstances.
