Inquiry Launched Following Shooting at Fort Stewart that Injures Five Soldiers

Incident at Fort Stewart

A suspect was arrested on Wednesday following the shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia that injured five soldiers. The incident occurred at 10:56 am in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, prompting the base to initiate lockdown procedures by 11:04 am. The arrest happened at approximately 11:35 am, with the base assuring there is “no active threat to the community.”

At least five soldiers suffered injuries, thankfully with no fatalities reported thus far. However, two soldiers were taken to a hospital in the Savannah area; their conditions remain unclear at this moment.

In a statement shared on X, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed, “We are keeping the victims, their families, and everyone who answers our calls to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask Georgians to do the same everywhere.”

The White House Press Secretary also confirmed that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the situation, indicating that “the White House is monitoring the situation.”

Both the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI Savannah Office are investigating the shooting. Additionally, the Liberty County School System nearby has temporarily closed three schools—Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary, and Snelson Golden Middle School—to ensure safety amidst the heightened alert.

Fort Stewart, located roughly 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is home to the 3rd Infantry Division and has been involved in recent military operations, both active and reserve. The incident follows a troubling trend of mass shootings at U.S. military bases, including the tragic shooting at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida and the Washington Navy Yard shooting in 2013.

Prayers for Recovery

A prayer from Fort Stewart reflected a community’s hope: “We pray for those involved in today’s shootings, including the five wounded soldiers. We pray for their swift recovery and the safety of Fort Bragg and everyone else in the surrounding area. Lord, we seek comfort in this tragedy.”
