Pat McAfee criticizes the 'lousy suits at ESPN' while applauding the WWE agreement

Not everyone’s thrilled about the latest collaboration between WWE and ESPN.

Former wrestling commentator and current ESPN host Pat McAfee didn’t hold back in his critique, labeling some of the mid-level personnel at ESPN as “bums” following the announcement of a deal to air promotional premium live events.

In a post on X, McAfee stated, “Congratulations to @WWE and @ESPN on completing their historic PLE transaction.”

McAfee feels his role will expand in the coming months.
John Cena defended the WWE World title against Cody Rhodes at MetLife Stadium on August 3, 2025.

“It’s fantastic to see these two giants, sports and entertainment, teaming up. But, honestly, I feel like the mid-level guys at ESPN are going to complicate things with their leaks and ignorant comments,” he added.

The deal, which spans five years and is valued at $1.6 billion, enables ESPN to broadcast significant WWE events like WrestleMania, Summerslam, and Royal Rumble as part of new consumer services launching soon.

Triple-H and WWE have linked up with ESPN programming.

Earlier this year, McAfee stepped back from WWE commentary duties to focus on other commitments. He has clashed with ESPN management before, even accusing Norby Williamson of attempting to derail his show in 2024.

McAfee had a pointed exchange with Williamson, who left ESPN earlier this year, repeating, “I don’t have a Motherf King Boss.”

The partnership between ESPN and McAfee began in September 2023, when he signed a five-year deal worth $85 million.
