Tragic Death of Rising Fashion Designer Martha Nolan Osratara
Martha Nolan Osratara’s journey is a true American tale. Starting off as a bottle service worker in Soho, she made her mark in fashion design, spending her summers mingling with the elite in the Hamptons.
However, her promising career took a heartbreaking turn when she was discovered dead on a boat at the prestigious Montauk Yacht Club on Tuesday. The details surrounding her last moments remain unclear.
Dylan Grace, her business partner at East X East Design, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, reflecting on their shared dreams and struggles. “We dreamed big together, understood each other deeply, and shared lots of laughter through it all,” he wrote.
Nolan Osratara, 33, was found unresponsive on a boat docked at the yacht club shortly after midnight Tuesday. Despite attempts by bystanders to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Suffolk County police.
An autopsy reportedly found no signs of violence, yet authorities haven’t dismissed the possibility of foul play. A murder detective from Suffolk was dispatched shortly after the discovery.
Reports state that members of the yacht club were alarmed, with some expressing concern over the owner of the boat where Nolan was found. Nearby crew members from another vessel called 911 and attempted to save her.
Although her death is still a mystery, her rapid ascent in the fashion industry is well-documented. She often mentioned her small-town roots in Carlow, Ireland, highlighting how they shaped her determination to succeed.
Nolan Osratara earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from University College Dublin and later, a master’s in digital marketing. In interviews, she conveyed her ambition, saying, “I’ve always wanted to be successful. I’m driven by business, and while the fashion industry is tough, I’m willing to take the time to grow.”
By just 26, she had already become vice president of a retail marketing agency in Ireland. However, feeling unfulfilled, she relocated to New York, rebranding herself as Marsanolan for her ventures.
A former colleague described how she began her NYC career as a bottle service girl before moving on to various opportunities. “She had an entrepreneurial spirit and was always working on something,” they recalled, noting her talent for networking and making connections.
In 2021, she founded East X East and another accessories brand, Duper. “I have a knack for building brands, and people come to me with ideas,” she shared in an interview. “I can make things happen.” Her company’s success allowed her to spend summers in the Hamptons, where she recently held a pop-up event at an upscale spa.
A statement from the spa expressed their sadness over Nolan’s passing, commending her creative vision. Although she wasn’t an employee, they were proud to host her pop-up event.
In 2022, Nolan and Grace faced a lawsuit from Out East Accessories, a luxury eyewear brand, claiming they had misappropriated $34,000 from the company’s accounts. The details of the lawsuit’s resolution remain unknown.
