Details Emerge on Minnesota Assassination Case
A police vehicle linked to Minnesota Assassin Vance Boelter has drawn attention over its history and involvement in a deadly incident. This vehicle, a 2015 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUV, was previously used by law enforcement in Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to Blaze Media’s findings.
During the event on June 14, Boelter allegedly targeted a Democrat lawmaker, visiting several residences. A police officer in New Hope mistook the vehicle for an active police car. Given that it used to serve as a police vehicle from Osceola, Wisconsin, the misunderstanding might not be too surprising.
Blaze Media reviewed title records indicating Boelter purchased the SUV on May 14, 2019. The FBI reports that he parked this police cruiser at the residence of Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) prior to the attack on her and her husband.
According to the FBI, Boelter activated the emergency lights, rang Hortman’s doorbell, and shouted, “Police! Welfare check!” During these events, he donned police attire and utilized disguises such as silicone masks and wigs. After a brief exchange with Mark Hortman, Boelter allegedly shot him before killing Melissa Hortman as she attempted to escape upstairs.
Boelter faces six federal charges, including the murder of Melissa and Mark Hortman, as well as shooting State Sen. John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) and his wife, Yvette. He is also charged with attempted murder against Hoffman’s daughter, which could lead to a death penalty sentence.
On the night of the shooting, Boelter had reportedly parked his SUV a block away from Senator Hoffman’s home. Local officials initially believed the vehicle was there for security. The confusion might stem from its past, as it was indeed an outdated police vehicle.
Boelter acquired the SUV for his security company, Praetorian Guard Security Services, founded in September 2018. However, it appears that he did not take on any clients. Title records show he bought three other retired police vehicles for his business.
In addition to the Explorer, he purchased two other Ford Explorer Police Interceptor models from law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He had also owned a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Sedan from the St. Louis Park Police Department, which he disposed of in September 2017.
One of Boelter’s other police SUVs was found abandoned in an alley near his residence, which he was seen breaking into hours after the shooting. Police removed the vehicle later that day.
Ford has been producing specialized vehicles for law enforcement since the 1950s, and their Police Interceptor line debuted in 1992. The latest models come equipped with advanced technology, including sensors designed to enhance safety.
