Formula 1 Anticipates Success with Upcoming Film
Formula 1 is looking forward to the release of F1: Movie, hoping it resonates with a new generation of fans. The sport’s ownership group and the ten participating teams have already begun to notice positive impacts from the film’s growing popularity.
Liberty Media, which owns F1, released its financial results for the second quarter of 2025 on Thursday. Following a first-quarter revenue of $403 million (a drop of $150 million compared to the same quarter in 2024), they reported an increase to $1.226 billion for the three months ending June 30th.
Moreover, over $513 million has been distributed among the ten Formula One teams, a substantial increase from just $114 million in the opening quarter of this year.
In its announcement, Liberty Media highlighted the surge in movie and F1TV subscriptions as key factors driving revenues from films and media rights.
Liberty Media stated, “The ongoing growth of F1 TV subscriptions and the recognition of revenue from the F1 movies have also enhanced our media rights earnings.”
Derek Chen, president and CEO of Liberty Media, remarked, “Formula 1’s global prominence continues to fuel commercial growth and economic achievements, with new partnerships emerging and an increase in fan engagement showcasing the brand’s wide appeal.”
Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, noted, “This season has been remarkable with several teams and drivers performing at top levels. Apple’s F1 films have received well-deserved accolades, becoming the highest-grossing theatrical release for both established and new F1 fans.
“Cultural events, such as the F1 films combined with thrilling race action, foster strong viewership trends and significant social and digital interaction. We’ve seen record engagement through content shared on official F1 channels,” Domenicali added. “Thanks to our teams, partners, and the entire Formula 1 community, we’re creating significant momentum both on and off the track.”
F1: Movie has already become Apple’s highest-grossing film. Looking ahead, Formula 1 will return to action at the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August after its traditional summer break.
