Mel Gibson’s Epic Sequel Announcement

Excitement is brewing among fans of Mel Gibson, as they can now look forward to a much-anticipated sequel to one of his most celebrated films.

According to Lionsgate Films, fans will be treated to not just one, but two sequels coming out a few months apart. They teased the release of a new movie in May, though at that time, it was unclear what Gibson would have up his sleeve regarding this significant project.

In a recent report, it’s been shared that Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” is now officially a trilogy. The sequels are set to premiere in theaters within the first half of 2027, just six weeks apart.

Lionsgate has released a teaser for “The Resurrection of the Christ,” which will be presented in two parts. The first part is scheduled for Good Friday on March 26, 2027, followed by the second part on May 6, 2027, coinciding with the celebration of Ascension Day.

As reported, these films will delve into the essence of the soul, exploring themes tied to the sufferings of Christ, possibly shedding light on the concept of hell. There’s an internal source suggesting an estimated budget for the project that could outstrip the original by more than three times.

The original “The Passion of the Christ,” which debuted in 2004, grossed over $80 million its opening weekend and went on to earn around $600 million globally.

According to insiders, the budgets for the new films could exceed $100 million each. Production is slated to take place in various locations, including Rome and several towns in southern Italy like Altamura, Ginosa, and Matera. The historical significance of these regions will play an essential role in the narrative Gibson aims to convey.

Chris Enloe, a faith editor, shared insights on the importance of these filming locations, suggesting they provide tangible authenticity to the story. He stated that the ancient towns echo the biblical world while illustrating the journey from early church suffering to eventual glory. Gibson’s work isn’t just about storytelling; it’s about immersing viewers in a blend of history, faith, and cinematic vision.

In other news, it seems Mel Gibson was appointed as a special ambassador by former President Donald Trump shortly after his 69th birthday, with the hope of revitalizing Hollywood.

Trump expressed his confidence in Gibson and his fellow appointees to help restore Hollywood’s former glory, aiming to return it to what he described as its “golden age.”
