Cincinnati Street Brawl: Single Mother Responds to Police Characterization
A single mother has expressed her frustration towards Cincinnati’s police leadership after a violent confrontation last month, describing the situation as more than just an “incident.” She is demanding apologies from both the police chief and the mayor for their lack of accountability in the matter.
The woman, known publicly as Holly, criticized Police Chief Teresa Tegge for referring to the July 26 altercation as merely an “incident.” In a press conference two days later, she called this characterization an “injury.”
“It clearly didn’t look like an incident; it felt more like a brutal attack,” Holly stated during an interview on “Ingram Angle.”
Holly recounted her experience, saying, “I consider it an attempted murder. Honestly, it’s shameful. I still haven’t heard anything from the police chief or the mayor.”
The violent encounter left her with severe injuries, including black eyes, busted lips, and significant bruising. Currently, Holly is dealing with brain trauma and concussions in addition to her physical wounds.
Videos from the brawl showed Holly surrounded by a group of mostly unidentified individuals. The footage depicted the two victims being assaulted while on the ground. At one point, Holly was knocked unconscious, and as she attempted to intervene, blood poured from her mouth.
Five individuals—Montianez Merriweather, 34, Jermaine Matthews, 39, Aisha Devaughn, 25, Dominique Kittle, 37, and Dekyra Vernon, 24—are facing charges of felony assault, among other offenses, in connection with the incident. One person involved is reportedly on the run from authorities, who have opted to withhold their identity for now.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, but new footage has emerged showing one assailant initiating the violence. Merriweather’s family has claimed that he was targeted after being subjected to racial slurs, suggesting that the public outcry over the incident is partly due to Holly’s race as a white woman.
“If the victim had been an African-American woman, I doubt we’d be seeing this level of attention,” an acquaintance of those charged commented last week, indicating possible racial dynamics at play.
The incident has sparked conversations around race, as the five accused individuals, all identified as Black, are being scrutinized for potential racial motivations in their assault on white victims.
