Lizzo’s Social Media Play Amidst Controversy
Pop singer Lizzo recently tried to poke fun at advertisements for Sydney Sweeney Jeans from American Eagle by sharing a new song on social media.
Released on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, the video featured Lizzo making a stylish entrance in denim, facing the camera.
In one clip, titled “I’m Goin’ in till 10,” Lizzo donned ripped jeans while showcasing a confident and playful demeanor. It was a moment that some might even say deserved a pun on “gene,” given the ad’s focus on Sweeney.
The second video started with a cable news clip praising the Sweeney ad and stating, “We’re beyond this eye-waited agenda. We’re beyond Rizzos.” The scene then cut to Lizzo, who looked relaxed in full denim, reminiscent of Sweeney’s campaign. She cheekily remarked, “Rizzo has good jeans.”
According to reports, Lizzo also shared a digitally altered meme that placed Sweeney in an outfit akin to her own. The caption read, “If Democrats win the election.”
Lizzo responded with her own take: “My jeans are black…”

Breitbart News noted the stir caused by an ad featuring Sydney Sweeney for American Eagle, which used the phrase “Cheesy Puns.” “Sydney Sweeney has some amazing jeans,” was part of the promotion that caught some backlash. Critics even claimed the ad held Nazi undertones, reflecting on its implications.
One TikTok user described the ads as so racist, they could “be in a history book,” expressing her frustration through an intense rant. Another claimed Sweeney’s appearance in the ad could be interpreted as an “Eugenics Advertisement,” accusing American Eagle of crafting campaigns to bring back outdated notions. Then there were other voices online, such as a left-leaning individual airing her views on the ad targeting marginalized groups.
The media has ignited this debate, with various outlets branding the ad as “controversial” or, in some cases, as promoting “whiteness.” White House communications manager Stephen Chang weighed in, suggesting that the backlash played a role in Trump’s 2024 electoral success, saying that many Americans are tired of the ongoing “bullshit.” He pointedly remarked that “Cancel culture runs through Amoku,” criticizing what he sees as a flawed mindset affecting current politics.
As the conversation continues, Sydney Sweeney remains quiet, while American Eagle stands firm behind their ad without apologies. Reports surfaced suggesting Sweeney’s registered Republican status in Florida, but there’s been no confirmation from her side. President Trump, while speaking to reporters, expressed his surprise at hearing about Sweeney’s political alignment, stating, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, then I think her ads are great.”
