Bad Timing for Lock

Speaking of unfortunate timing, Seahawks analyst Michael Robinson had high praise for quarterback Drew Locke during the opening preseason game on Friday night. He noted that having a veteran backup quarterback, like Locke, usually means fewer mistakes compared to younger players, particularly in the preseason.

Contrary to Robinson’s confidence, just two plays later, Locke threw an interception. This came after a pass intended for Seahawks wide receiver Tory Horton was picked off by Raiders safety Isaiah Pola-Mao in the first quarter.

Robinson seemed to find humor in the situation, saying, “What a fun thing. We were just talking about how Drew is getting smarter in football, and then—well, you know how it goes.” Locke is returning to the Seahawks after signing a two-year, $5 million deal, having spent last season with the Giants. Previously, he played three years with the Broncos before his time in Seattle.

During the game, Locke recorded 12 completions out of 17 attempts for a total of 147 yards, which included both touchdowns and interceptions. Robinson, who had an eight-year NFL career, reminisced about his time winning a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, highlighting how his experience mirrors the ups and downs new players often face.

The game ended in a 23-23 tie. It’s worth mentioning that many of Seattle’s starters, including quarterback Sam Darnold, were sitting out. Darnold had recently landed a lucrative three-year, $105.5 million deal after reviving his career with the Vikings in 2024. Looking ahead, Seattle is set to face San Francisco in their regular season opener on September 7th.
