JD Vance fishes for trout with Lammy from the UK

Vice President JD Vance recently engaged in discussions with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, covering topics such as US-UK relations, Gaza, and Ukraine during his visit to the UK.

While Vance didn’t catch any fish himself, he was accompanied by his three children, who were more successful in that regard.

“It’s amusing, in a way, that all my kids managed to catch fish, but the Foreign Secretary and I came up empty,” the Vice President remarked.

Vance noted that he and Lammy became friends during their time as US Senators, reflecting on how Lammy had visited him in Washington, DC.

“We do have different political perspectives, but he graciously took time to visit me when he was in DC,” Vance commented to reporters. “We’ve grown closer and our families really enjoy spending time together.”

US-UK relations are flourishing, especially under President Trump, who was the first to sign a trade deal with the UK. Recently, he also played golf in Scotland, discussing the details of the agreement there.

Trump is scheduled to return to the UK in September to attend another state dinner at the invitation of King Charles.

However, there are concerns about Israel’s handling of Gaza, as UK leader Starmer indicated that the UK might recognize Palestinian statehood in September unless there are improvements in humanitarian conditions.

“It’s a decision for the UK to make. But I question what recognizing a Palestinian state really means, given the current situation,” Vance said.

In addition, Vance reaffirmed his commitment to free speech, suggesting that the Biden administration has fostered a culture of censorship.

“I’ve voiced my worries regarding these issues, particularly as they relate to our friends across the Atlantic,” he said about the censorship concerns.

“What I express to the people in England reflects many of my anxieties regarding the trajectory of issues in the US from 2020 to 2024. I don’t want to follow what appears to be a troubling path under the Biden administration.”

Additionally, Vance is reportedly planning to visit US troops while in the UK, according to a familiar source.
