Tragic Incident Involving Bronx Teen
A 14-year-old from the Bronx, Angel Mendoza, became a victim of a brutal murder simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Recently, he had started associating with a risky crowd, pushing his concerned parents to consider drastic measures.
Angel’s father, Miguel Mendoza, explained that his son was fatally attacked on Tuesday night. This violence stemmed from a playground fight—a conflict in which Angel had no involvement. In a heartbreaking conversation, Miguel shared his feelings of helplessness over the influence of Angel’s friends.
“I try to hide my shoes so he can’t go outside, but he always finds a way,” the devastated father lamented.
According to police sources, Angel was not part of any gang or criminal activities but was tragically caught up in events beyond his control. He and his family had reached out for help in the past, feeling that their concerns went unaddressed.
“I went to Family Court, but they did nothing. I called the police, and they said he was a minor—there was nothing they could do. I reached out to ACS, and again, no action,” Miguel recounted.
Angel often spent time at the Williams Bridge Oval Playground in Norwood, enjoying basketball like his favorite NBA stars, LeBron James and others, Miguel noted. However, on that fateful night, a teenager retaliated against him, motivated by an unrelated stabbing from earlier, sources revealed.
Even though Angel wasn’t involved in the earlier fight, it seems he was connected to those who were.
Angel’s mother, Ramona Hernandez de Mendoza, spoke about her son, emphasizing his love for rap, reggaeton, and dancing. She and Miguel referred to Angel as a cherished child, who was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the city at the age of four.
“There’s a hole in my heart because my son is gone,” Miguel shared, tears in his eyes. “He will never come back. He was my firstborn, and I’m so angry—so very angry. I just want justice.”
