Peace Summit at the White House

On August 8, 2025, President Donald Trump brought together the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House for a “peace summit.” This meeting was intended to address the long-standing tensions between the two nations, with both leaders even hinting at nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The summit carried significant diplomatic weight, aimed at mediating ongoing territorial disputes, particularly around Nagorno-Karabakh. This area has seen decades of conflict and hostility, so the stakes were high.

By facilitating talks in Washington, the Trump administration sought to position itself as a key player in the region, traditionally influenced by Russia and Turkey.

During the summit, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed peace and economic agreements alongside U.S. officials. Notably, they also established bilateral agreements to boost cooperation in fields like energy, trade, and even artificial intelligence.

A significant part of their agreement was the rebranding of a contentious regional transport corridor, now called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.” Trump noted this development as both a diplomatic and financial milestone.

Leaders from both nations expressed gratitude to Trump for his facilitative role in addressing their long-standing issues.

Before finalizing the Joint Declaration of Peace, President Aliyev remarked on the importance of establishing peace in the Caucasus, and how it extended beyond their immediate region.

“This breakthrough would simply not have been possible without President Trump’s personal involvement,” Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan acknowledged.

Following their signatures on the Joint Peace Agreement, Aliyev and Pashinyan sealed the deal with a handshake, while Trump signed as a witness, marking what many hope is a historic turn toward peace.
