Authorities are currently responding to a situation at Emory University in Atlanta after reports of an active shooter surfaced on Friday afternoon. A representative from Grady Hospital indicated to the media that at least one police officer was transported to Emory University Hospital.

Students on campus have been advised to steer clear of the Emory Point area. The University’s Office of Preparation and Response shared an alert on X, stating, “Emory Emergency: Active Shooter at Emory Atlanta Campus at Emory Point CVS.”

Emory University, a private institution, comprises nine schools, including the Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the Goizueta Business School, and the Emory School of Medicine. The College of Arts and Sciences alone serves over 5,700 students.

This university has a tight connection with Emory Healthcare, which is the largest healthcare system in Georgia.

Nearby, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) main campus is also located in the vicinity of the reported incident. The Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office verified that local police are on the scene, alongside Atlanta police, who are also responding to the matter.

As of now, authorities have yet to disclose any further details regarding injuries or fatalities related to the incident.

There hasn’t been an immediate response from the Emory University Police or the DeKalb Police regarding inquiries about the situation.
