John Deere Plans Major Investment in U.S. Operations

John Deere, a leading name in agricultural equipment, recently shared plans to invest close to $2 billion over the next decade to enhance its U.S. operations. This move aligns with the company’s strong commitment to American manufacturing.

Cory Reed, president of John Deere’s U.S. and Australian turf division, expressed the company’s dedication during an interview with Fox Business. He remarked, “We were born here and we will stay here.”

This substantial investment is part of a broader $20 billion initiative aimed at advancing new product development, cutting-edge technology, and manufacturing capabilities, according to Reed.

Founded in 1837 in Grand Detour, Illinois, by blacksmith John Deere, the company has been ramping up its investments in the U.S., modernizing existing facilities and constructing new ones.

For instance, John Deere is in the process of building a $70 million factory in Carnersville, North Carolina, specifically for excavator production. Moreover, they recently finished a $40 million expansion in Des Moines, Iowa, to manufacture a sea and spray system that utilizes computer vision and AI to identify and treat weeds.

In addition to these projects, the company invested nearly $150 million in revamping its factory in East Moline, Illinois, to produce the new X9 combine. Reed noted, “These investments help us solve some of our customers’ biggest challenges.”

He added, “Our customers are the backbone of our community, and we’re proud to provide solutions that make work easier and more efficient.” Impressively, nearly 80% of John Deere’s sales in the U.S. and 25% of its international sales come from domestically manufactured products.

With around 30,000 employees across more than 60 locations in the U.S. and an additional 50,000 employed by its independent dealerships, John Deere continues to play a vital role in the economy.
