Tragic Shooting Incident in Georgia
Authorities report that a police officer in Georgia was killed while responding to gunfire at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta.
The DeKalb County Police Department expressed their sorrow, stating, “We announce the unfortunate passing of Officer David Rose, who was killed in the line of duty.” They added, “Officer Rose dedicated himself to serving DeKalb County with courage and integrity. His commitment to protecting the community was unwavering, even amidst dangers. Our deepest condolences go out to Officer Rose’s family, friends, colleagues, and the wider law enforcement community during this profoundly difficult time.”
Officer Rose, aged 33, is survived by a pregnant wife and two young children.
Starting at 5:33 PM on Friday, Emory University issued urgent alerts on social media, indicating an active shooter situation and advising students to evacuate the area.
The shooting unfolded close to Emory University’s Atlanta campus, near the CDC.
Later that Friday night, university officials indicated that they were still working to confirm details regarding the active shooter incident.
On Saturday morning, Emory officials stated that additional police presence would be established in the vicinity.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White from Kennesaw, Georgia, as a suspect in the shooting.
