Conn. Democrat Rep. Allie-Brennan arrested again for shoplifting at the same Target

Connecticut Rep. Faces Legal Troubles

State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan is in hot water after being arrested twice for shoplifting at the same Target store. His recent troubles began on July 28, when he turned himself in following a warrant linked to a shoplifting charge from June at the same location.

The 33-year-old lawmaker reportedly failed to scan items totaling $26.69 at the Bethel Target, claiming he was in a rush to deliver supplies to his grandmother in the hospital. The situation raises eyebrows—it’s hard to imagine how a quick trip could lead to such issues.

In a subsequent incident, a store security guard noted Allie-Brennan attempting to conceal items worth $54.55 in a bag. This wasn’t exactly his first time; staff recognized him from earlier, unreported theft cases, according to police reports.

After his July 28 arrest, Allie-Brennan was released on August 5 with a promise to appear in state superior court. He maintains that he’s taking full responsibility for his actions. “I’ve been open about my accountability,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to serving his community.

However, Republican leaders in Connecticut are calling for his resignation. Ben Pro, president of the Connecticut Republican Party, expressed disappointment, saying it’s unfortunate that a legislator finds himself in such legal trouble. In light of these allegations, he insists Allie-Brennan should step down.

On another note, it seems Allie-Brennan is seeking some form of rehabilitation, as he has applied for accelerated rehabilitation to potentially have the charges dismissed after fulfilling certain conditions. He has indicated participation in programs that encourage constructive self-reflection regarding his behavior.

House Speaker Matt Ritter, a fellow Democrat, has stated that he spoke with Allie-Brennan and expressed concerns. “He’s taking some time away from Congress to deal with these legal, political, and personal challenges,” he remarked, hinting that this situation might require a bit more than just a simple fix.
