Shooting Incident Near Emory University
A police officer was tragically killed in a shooting near Emory University’s Atlanta campus and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The suspected shooter, who wielded several firearms—two handguns, a rifle, and a shotgun—fatally shot DeKalb County officer David Rose while responding to an active shooter alert.
Officer Rose, a devoted husband and father of two, with one on the way, had been part of the department since September. Interim Police Chief Greg Padrick emphasized Rose’s commitment to serving the community.
In a statement on social media, FBI Director Kash Patel hailed Rose as a hero, calling it the “ultimate sacrifice.” He urged people to pray for Rose’s family, friends, and colleagues, highlighting the officer’s quick actions to protect others.
The shooter was identified as Patrick Joseph White, age 30, from Kennesaw, Georgia. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, White was discovered with a gunshot wound in the CVS pharmacy building nearby.
Reports suggest that White’s actions might have been driven by his animosity towards vaccines, as he targeted a CDC building during the incident.
CDC Director Susan Monares expressed her sorrow over the shooting, describing herself as “grief-stricken.” She acknowledged the swift response from local authorities, which likely prevented further harm to the community.
“Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone at the CDC,” she shared, mentioning ongoing collaboration with federal and state partners to thoroughly investigate the event.
Condolences for David Rose’s Family
In light of this devastating situation, we extend our heartfelt prayers to Officer Rose’s family. May his wife, children, friends, and fellow officers find peace in this overwhelming time of loss. Rose’s bravery in protecting others, even at such great personal cost, is truly commendable. We seek healing for all those affected by this tragedy, hoping for justice and mercy within our community.
