Body of Missing North Carolina Teen Found in Florida
The body of an 18-year-old who went missing from North Carolina has been discovered in Florida. Giovanni Peretier was reported missing more than a week ago after sending a concerning message to his mother, which has now raised alarms.
His body was located in a retention pond near Interstate 75 and State Road 70, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. The day before, his backpack and phone were found in the vicinity.
Peretier’s mother, Bridget, shared the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post. She expressed her anguish, noting that while they had been searching desperately, they are now facing a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death. “I live through all parents’ worst nightmares,” she wrote, pleading for privacy as she copes with this unimaginable loss, especially for her son’s four brothers.
The exact cause of his death remains unclear.
Giovanni was last seen on August 1 when he left in the early hours to visit relatives in Brevard County while vacationing with his family in Englewood, Florida. Reports indicate that during the trip, he sent a distressing message to his mother—simply saying, “Mama, help.” He also reached out to his aunt, grandfather, and father with similar sentiments.
Before leaving the vehicle with his cousin, strange behavior had been noted by those around him. Following his disappearance, nearly 20 family members joined the search efforts utilizing ATVs and drones.
Concerns within the family grew regarding the cousin’s actions after initial statements appeared to change before the discovery of Peretier’s body. There’s been confusion and frustration expressed, with family members questioning why inconsistencies were present in the narrative.
Authorities have seized the Chevrolet Malibu that Peretier rode in with his cousin as part of the investigation. However, further details about the investigation haven’t been disclosed yet.
