David Justice Reflects on Relationship with Halle Berry

Former MLB player David Justice recently shared insights on his past marriage to actress Halle Berry. The couple tied the knot in 1993 but separated just over four years later. Berry filed for divorce in April 1996, citing “incompatible differences,” followed by Justice filing his own paperwork two weeks later. Their divorce was finalized in June 1997.

Justice appeared on the podcast “All Smoke,” where he discussed factors that contributed to their breakup. He admitted that his understanding of relationships at the time was limited, as he had only experienced one prior relationship. Reflecting on his upbringing, he mentioned how he expected his wife to take on traditional roles, like cooking and potentially raising a family.

During her ascent in Hollywood, Berry starred in notable films throughout the mid- to late 90s, including “Boomerang,” “Jungle Fever,” and “The Last Boy Scout.” Justice, for his part, earned his first All-Star selection in 1993 after their marriage and achieved the honor again in 1994 before the players’ strike. He later played for the Cleveland Indians and was traded to the New York Yankees in 2000.

Justice expressed a belief that if they had sought counseling, perhaps the outcome could have been different. Berry, now dating musician Van Hunt, has moved on, while Justice is married to entrepreneur Rebecca Villarrobos, and they have three children.
