Body of Missing Teen Found in Florida Water Pond

The body of 18-year-old Giovanni Peretier from North Carolina was discovered in a retention pond in Florida after a search was initiated by his family and local staff. Peretier had gone missing while on vacation in Inglewood with relatives, as reported by local news.

He left for Brevard County on August 1st, traveling with his biological father’s relatives and some of his cousins’ friends. Notably, his family stated that he had never previously met one of these men in person. About thirty minutes into the trip, Peretier sent a message to his mother. According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), his cousin and a friend noted that he started to act erratically and exited the vehicle near the intersection of I-75 and SR 70 in Manatee County. His backpack and phone were later found at that location.

Reports indicated that there was an argument involving his grandfather, who was supposed to meet him. Subsequently, family members, along with staff and a nonprofit organization called We Are Essentials, organized a search for him. His body was found on Friday in a pond located off the southbound ramp of Interstate 75 and SR 70, as stated by ABC 11.

While there was no early indication of foul play, an autopsy is being performed to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death. Retired FBI special agent Frank Blastrom mentioned that authorities will analyze the remains to help determine the cause of death. ABC 11 also mentioned that investigators would cross-reference the information provided by his cousin, who joined the group shortly after they left.

In the wake of this tragedy, his mother, Bridget Peretier, shared the profound sorrow felt by her family, describing it as “the worst nightmare of all parents.”
