LSU football freshman taken into custody on accessory charges

A freshman from the LSU Tigers, JT Lindsey, turned himself in to authorities amid claims that he was involved in a case where two men were accused of murder in a dormitory. Alexandria police reported that 17-year-old Shemel Jacobs and 18-year-old Keldric Jordan were wanted for armed robbery and second-degree murder in Louisiana and were arrested at the LSU dorm on Monday.

Both suspects were allegedly linked to the killing of a 17-year-old in May. Lindsey was apprehended on Friday as an accessory to the murder charges but was released the same day after posting a $5,000 bond. An affidavit revealed that Jacobs had Lindsey’s school identification and had access to the dorm, where they could stay together until July 24.

Lindsey’s attorney, Chris Perrett, emphasized that his client was unaware he was being sought in connection with the murder, asserting Lindsey’s innocence. Perrett explained that his client had no knowledge of any criminal activity by the individuals he allowed to stay in his apartment. He mentioned, “If he had known they were wanted, he wouldn’t have let them in.” Furthermore, he stated Lindsay never intended to assist or hide anyone connected to the arrests.

LSU acknowledged awareness of the situation involving Lindsey but declined to provide further comments due to ongoing legal proceedings. The attorney indicated that Lindsey would be temporarily suspended. Born in Alexandria, he was recognized as one of the top running backs in the 2025 recruiting class, earning a 4-star rating.

As of Sunday, Lindsey remained listed on the LSU roster.
