Devin Williams Struggles in Yankees’ Loss to Astros

Devin Williams had a challenging outing as he pitched six innings in a game against the Astros, which the Yankees lost 7-1. It was supposed to bolster his confidence, but the results were less than encouraging.

Williams faced notable hitters like Chas McCormick, Jeremy Pena, and Carlos Correa, throwing 11 pitches in total, with 10 of them hitting the strike zone. However, he ended a streak of five consecutive appearances that had allowed at least one run.

Following Williams, Brent Headrick took the mound and delivered two scoreless innings, striking out four batters. To put things in perspective, this left-hander had allowed only one run and struck out 14 batters over his past 10 innings. Quite the turnaround, I suppose.

In other news, Giancarlo Stanton, who had played right field previously, found himself out of the starting lineup, which was a bit surprising. There was some chatter about Aaron Boone’s decision to start him again in the outfield, especially since he hadn’t played that position in two years.

Stanton ended up coming in as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and had a single, which at least helped secure him safely through the final two innings. I mean, it’s an interesting approach, given that the DH spot is a bit crowded lately. Aaron Judge is still recovering from flexor tension and can’t play the outfield just yet.

On that note, Judge was expected to start throwing again soon, although he mentioned there’s no update on his throwing program. The whole situation seems a bit uncertain, but there’s hope he’ll return sooner rather than later.

Aaron Boone seemed upbeat about the ongoing process, indicating that things have been progressing well. It’s really a waiting game at this point.

Furthermore, Ryan Yarbra and Fernando Cruz were slated to throw live batting practice in Somerset, which adds another layer of complexity to the roster decisions.

Yarbra is supposed to extend his innings as a starter, though it’s unclear whether he’ll resume his role there or shift to relief. The lineup is tightening up, and there are still some decisions to be made.

Finally, after Saturday’s Old Man’s Day events, Clay Bellinger made a memorable gesture by throwing a ceremonial first pitch to his son Cody. It’s moments like those that remind us of the bonds in baseball.
