Yankees Struggle Against Astros
The New York Yankees have stumbled, losing seven out of their last nine games, including a recent match against the Houston Astros. Defensive issues have been a significant talking point among fans.
In Sunday’s loss, outfielder Cody Bellinger was notably criticized. During the ninth inning, Astros hitter Ramonulius created chaos for the Yankees’ outfielders, leading to a mishap. Bellinger attempted to throw the ball home to tag Jose Altuve, but it slipped from his grip, allowing the Astros to extend their lead to 6-1. That misplay, unfortunately, encapsulated the challenges New York has faced.
Bellinger’s performance this season has been inconsistent. With 20 home runs in 109 games and a .272 batting average, he’s had his moments. Yet, in the last five games, he’s struggled, managing only two hits in seventeen at-bats.
On another note, the Yankees managed just three hits throughout the game, sliding to a 62-56 record. Now, they find themselves 6.5 games behind in the American League East, and they’re currently in second place for the AL Wild Card, trailing the Boston Red Sox.
The team has been needlessly generous in errors lately, committing six in just the past nine games.
Additionally, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected during the game following a disagreement over a call, which further added to the day’s frustrations.
