White Sox Fans Tie the Knot During Game

Mark and Christine Igialto, devoted Chicago White Sox fans, exchanged vows in a quick 60-second ceremony during a game against the Guardians on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Ron Kittle, the 1983 American League Rookie of the Year, and took place on the field between the third and fourth innings.

This “Minute Married” moment was part of the Bill Veeck Night celebration, honoring the past owners of the team.

Following the ceremony, the groom embraced their young daughter, prompting cheers from the crowd.

Christine described the experience as a “whirlwind,” adding, “It was very fast, but just listening to everyone in the stands was amazing. The best feeling I’ve ever felt.”

Mark shared his gratitude for the unique opportunity, remarking on how special it was to get married at the game.

He mentioned that participating in the promotional event during Bill Veeck Night felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, saying, “We are grateful to the Chicago White Sox. Everything they did for us is incredible.”

Mark reflected that the timing felt right for them to tie the knot. “We’ve loved each other for a long time. The promotion came up, and my daughter was here,” he noted.

As for what’s next, Christine mentioned they’re planning to baptize their daughter, Heidi. “Now we have a White Sox connection,” she joked, with Mark adding a humorous nod about having Pope Leo baptize her, referring to his status as a notable fan.

Bill Veeck Night included various festivities, such as a pre-game petting zoo, skydiving demonstrations, live ice sculpture creations, free haircuts, and post-game fireworks. Veeck, who owned the team at different times from 1959 until his passing in 1986, was a legendary figure in baseball, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.

He was known for his innovative ideas, like creating the first electronic scoreboard in 1960 and wearing shorts during a game, a bold move in 1976.

In a tribute to Veeck, White Sox players wore shorts during the game, honoring his legacy before their 3-1 loss to Cleveland.
