Two separate incidents of violence occurred in New York City on Sunday, with one attack in the Bronx and another in Manhattan, according to police sources.
In the Bronx, a 33-year-old man was riding the southbound No. 2 train around 9:30 PM when a discussion with a woman he didn’t know escalated. As the train passed Bronx Park’s East Station, the situation turned violent when the woman pulled out a small silver knife and slashed the man on the right side of his neck.
After leaving the train, the victim was taken to Jacobia Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.
The woman, described as being in her 40s, fled the scene and had not been apprehended by Monday morning.
Earlier that same day, in an unrelated incident, a 78-year-old man was slashed on the cheek during an altercation in Hell’s Kitchen. The assailant, who had dreadlocks, intentionally bumped into the elderly man around 2:50 PM at the intersection of West 48th Street and 9th Avenue, leading to a brief confrontation.
A manager from Mama’s kitchen and bar, named Connor, reported witnessing the event. He described surveillance footage in which the attacker revealed a knife from a bag and struck the senior on the face.
The victim sought help at the nearby Planet Tacos restaurant, where someone alerted the police. He was later taken to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was also listed as stable.
The assailant fled the scene, heading west on 48th Avenue towards 10th Avenue. On Monday, he remained at large, last seen carrying a red Target shopping bag and wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.
According to Connor, who witnessed the aftermath, the scene was shocking. “It was crazy for sure. I’m from New York and I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said. “On a Sunday afternoon, that’s just wild.”
