Cleveland Browns’ Quarterback Situation Before Preseason Game

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is being considered for the Cleveland Browns’ starting position, but head coach Kevin Stefanski hasn’t yet confirmed who will take the lead this season. As the team prepares for their second preseason game this week, an unofficial depth chart has emerged, with Flacco at the top, followed by Kenny Pickett.

Shedeur Sanders, who had a stellar debut with the Carolina Panthers, is surprisingly listed as the fourth string behind Dilong Gabriel, despite his impressive performance in the Browns’ preseason opener.

During a media briefing on Monday, Stefanski didn’t make any firm declarations regarding Sanders, who was previously ranked lower before facing Carolina. He mentioned that he would have a clearer perspective on their game strategy as the week progresses. “By Wednesday or Thursday, I’ll have a better feel for the game and how we plan to approach it. I’ll keep you updated,” he said.

Asked about when a decision on the season starter might be made, Stefanski indicated that the outcome of this week’s game would play a significant role. “I think every factor is on the table, but you really can’t make a choice until you see how this week unfolds,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Flacco has been limited in first-team practice reps due to a hamstring issue, which also affects Gabriel, who is dealing with a similar injury. In contrast, Sanders threw for 138 yards, completing 14 out of 23 passes, contributing to a 30-10 win over the Panthers.
