Alex Bregman’s Memorable Return to Houston
Boston Red Sox player Alex Bregman, known for winning two World Series titles with the Houston Astros, had a notable return to Houston. On Monday, he made his entrance into the Visitors Clubhouse for the very first time.
During his initial at-bat as a visitor, Bregman was met with loud cheers. Seizing the moment, he hit a two-run homer that gave the Red Sox an early advantage.
“Every time I hit a home run in the Big Leagues, it’s pretty special. But being able to go back here and do it the first time was a moment I’ll really cherish,” Bregman remarked.
This home run was particularly significant. Bregman became the first Major League Baseball player in over 60 years to hit a home run in his first appearance against a team that has won at least two World Series. The last player to do so was Duke Snider when he faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1963.
As Bregman approached home plate for his second at-bat, the atmosphere shifted considerably. He anticipated some boos and seemed to appreciate the sentiment.
“I loved it,” he said, smiling. “I wanted them to do that.”
He added another hit to finish the night with a perfect 4-for-4.
The Astros had prepared a video tribute for Bregman, highlighting his memorable moments with the franchise. Fans responded with a standing ovation once the video concluded. Bregman expressed enjoyment in that experience.
“It’s really cool. A great moment,” he said. “I tried to take it all in. I told AC [manager Alex Cora] I was going to appreciate it, and I really made an effort to do so.”
Eventually, the Astros mounted a comeback, winning the first game of their three-game series. At that point, the Red Sox held 65 wins, while the Astros tallied 67 victories in total.
