DaRon Bland seeks a longer contract with the Cowboys

This summer has seen contract discussions with the Cowboys and Micah Parsons hit a standstill. It’s been quite stagnant, really.

Meanwhile, another player has voiced his wish to finalize his contract extension before the season kicks off.

Cornerback Daron Bland mentioned to reporters after practice on Tuesday that negotiations are ongoing between his representative and the Cowboys. He’s hopeful they can wrap up a new deal before the season opener on September 4th.

Bland, 26, is heading into the last year of his current contract.

When asked about the urgency to get a deal done, he replied, “I’m here, but I’m not really focused on that right now. But yeah, hopefully, it can happen.” It seems there’s at least a hint of optimism.

If no agreement is reached soon, Bland could enter free agency, set to earn $5.3 million in 2025.

After a strong showing in 2023, expectations were high for him. Unfortunately, he missed the first 10 games of the 2024 season due to a broken leg, finishing the year with 41 tackles and five pass defenses.

In 2023, he was recognized as an All-Pro, racking up 69 tackles and 15 pass defenses, along with nine interceptions.

On a separate note, the Cowboys are currently dealing with a long-term situation concerning one of their top players and his contract.

Parsons’s situation has also garnered attention, even catching the eye of Hollywood. Actor Denzel Washington took a moment to address team owner Jerry Jones during an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take.” He remarked, “I’ve been a Cowboys fan since the ’60s, and he makes it difficult for me. I’m still a Cowboys fan, of course. I’ll continue to wear my star, but honestly, it feels like he’s more concerned about his own interests.” The frustration is palpable, and it seems many fans share similar sentiments.
