Vikings Wide Receiver Rondale Moore Out for Another Season
Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore faces another season on the sidelines after suffering a severe left knee injury during Minnesota’s preseason opener against the Texans last weekend.
This follows a tough year for Moore, who missed the entire 2024 season due to a right knee injury he incurred while with the Falcons during training camp. The latest injury occurred as he was returning a punt in Saturday’s game, where he was tackled by Houston linebacker Jamal Hill.
Moore had to be carried off the field after the play.
The Vikings signed the 25-year-old earlier this offseason and placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday.
“As a head coach, it’s one of the most painful feelings when these things happen,” coach Kevin O’Connell remarked after the incident. “I strive to leave others better than I found them, but in situations like this, there’s nothing I can do. It’s a tough feeling.”
Originally drafted 49th overall out of Purdue in 2021, Moore launched his career with the Cardinals, playing in 39 regular-season games. Over three seasons, he amassed 1,201 yards and three touchdowns before being traded to the Falcons in March 2024. He was placed on injured reserve last summer due to an end-of-season knee injury.
The Vikings come off a successful 14-3 season, but despite a resurgence from quarterback Sam Darnold, they were eliminated by the Rams with a 27-9 loss in the wildcard round of the playoffs.
This year, Minnesota is relying on former round pick JJ McCarthy at quarterback.
As they prepare for the regular season in September, the team will also be without star wideout Jordan Addison, who is suspended for three games due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Addison, who was a first-round pick from USC in 2023, had pleaded guilty to reduced charges stemming from a DUI incident last year.
The Vikings are set to face the Bears in their season opener on Monday Night Football, scheduled for September 8th.
