Washington D.C. Reports 100th Murder This Year

Just hours after President Donald Trump announced a significant decision to federalize the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), a tragic incident occurred on Monday evening in Washington, D.C., marking the district’s 100th murder of the year.

According to the MPD, officers from District 3 responded to gunfire reports in the 1200 block of 12th Avenue NW, Logan Circle, at approximately 6:56 PM on August 11. They discovered the victim, identified as 33-year-old Tymark Wells, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of DC Fire and EMS, Wells was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

This incident not only highlights the rising violence but also serves as the first murder since the Trump administration took control of the MPD. As of now, police have not made any arrests related to this case.

Interestingly, the shooting took place mere blocks from two other recent murder sites, which has led various Congressional interns and former officials to point to Trump when discussing the issue of violent crime in the area.

In announcing the federal takeover, Trump asserted that his administration would take “decisive action” aimed at improving security within the nation’s capital.

However, the D.C. City Council has labeled this move as a “manufactured invasion” into local governance. They stated that violent crime rates in the district are at their lowest in three decades, arguing that federalizing the police is unwarranted given the current situation. There’s also concern regarding the role of the National Guard, suggesting they lack the necessary training in local laws and public safety.

At this point, MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Monday’s shooting. Individuals with any information should reach out by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting the tip line at 50411.

Fox News Digital has reached out for further comments from both the White House and MPD.
