Hulk Hogan Remembered by Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone recently shared memories of his time working with Hulk Hogan on the set of “Rocky III,” highlighting Hogan’s unique presence. This reflection comes in the wake of Hogan’s passing, as reported on July 24 at the age of 71. Stallone discussed Hogan’s contributions to both wrestling and pop culture, where he left a mark in various action films, family comedies, and reality TV shows.
During filming in the early ’80s, Hogan made his acting debut as Thunderlips, a character who faced Stallone’s Rocky Balboa in an exhibition match. Stallone recalled Hogan’s upbeat attitude, stating, “He was always self-deprecating, loud and welcoming.” He noted that Hogan had a certain light about him, something that drew attention even then.
Interestingly, Hogan had to leave his wrestling job to take on the role in “Rocky III.” Looking back, he commented on how unusual it was at the time for wrestlers to transition into acting.
Stallone offered some insights into working with a still-emerging Hogan, who hadn’t yet achieved the height of his wrestling fame. “When he was playing Thunderlips, he hadn’t fully developed his persona yet,” Stallone remarked, acknowledging Hogan’s surprising agility on set. Despite the physical demands, Stallone emphasized the reality behind wrestling, noting the risks that come with it.
Following Hogan’s death, Stallone paid tribute on social media, expressing his admiration and sadness. He described meeting Hogan at 26 as a privilege, remarking that Hogan’s extraordinary skills made “Rocky III” a special experience. “My heart is broken,” he concluded, reflecting on the loss of a vibrant personality in the world of entertainment.
Indeed, Hogan’s early days in Hollywood showed glimpses of the star he would become, and memories like Stallone’s keep his legacy alive.
