Cincinnati Man Faces Federal Gun Charges
Cincinnati – A man with a previous felony record, Montanes Merriweather, is facing new federal gun charges after being indicted for illegally possessing a firearm.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, the indictment states that Merriweather, 34, had a 9mm pistol in his possession on July 2. As a convicted felon, owning a firearm is prohibited for him.
Merriweather is also linked to a violent brawl that occurred downtown on July 26, 2025. Following this incident, he was charged with multiple felony assaults and aggravated riot. His bail was set at $500,000.
Authorities allege he participated in a brutal attack that injured several individuals outside a bustling nightclub. Merriweather faces three counts of felony assault, three counts of simple assault, and two counts of aggravated riot. He is currently in state custody.
If he is found guilty of the gun charges, he could face a lengthy prison sentence—up to 15 years.
U.S. Attorney Dominique S. Geres II commented, “There is no place for violence in our community. Individuals who engage in violent behavior will be held accountable under federal law.”
The aftermath of the brawl has left significant consequences, particularly for a woman known only as Holly. She is recovering from serious injuries, including a concussion and other neurological issues. Holly expressed concern about her recovery, admitting she’s unsure about the extent of the damage and how it will affect her future.
Other suspects involved in the assault are facing similar charges, as they allegedly took part in the violent events that evening.
Hamilton County Jail records show that another suspect, Gregory Wright, 32, was charged with aggravated riot and robbery, indicating the broad implications of the violence that unfolded that night.
