Three WNBA players kicked out following intense Sun-Sky altercation

It seems there were three ejections during the game.

Three players from the WNBA were kicked out on Wednesday night following a heated moment during the Sun’s 71-62 victory at home.

Bria Hartley from the Connecticut Sun and Rebecca Allen from the Chicago Sky were both ejected after a scuffle, while Sky’s Ariel Atkins also had to leave “to be an escalator” after pushing Hartley and bumping into the referee.

This all unfolded early in the second quarter when Sun’s Sanya River and Hartley were battling Allen for a rebound.

They seemed to get tangled up, and Hartley ended up pushing Allen to the ground. Allen, trying to keep her grip, ended up pulling on Hartley’s jersey for a moment as she stood above her.

Eventually, both players separated, but Atkins approached the referee, getting involved as she tried to confront Hartley.

Atkins and Hartley exchanged heated words just as things were starting to calm down a bit.

The dispute interrupted the game for about ten minutes. During that brief span, neither Hartley nor Allen managed to score, although Atkins managed to put up five points.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh described the situation as “unhappiness,” suggesting that earlier incidents in the game may have led to this escalation.

“These types of situations arise when there’s a lack of control in the game,” Marsh explained. “There are typically missed calls that can contribute to such conflicts. I mean, Allen definitely took an elbow to the face right in front of the referee, and nothing was called. It just spiraled from there.”

He added, “It’s unfortunate for us. We were trailing for most of the game without two key players, and that made things hard.

In the second half, the Sky were down to just eight players, as Angel Reese sat out with a back issue and Courtney VanderSloot was also sidelined due to an ACL tear.

The Sky (8-24) have faced a rough patch, losing 11 of their last 12 games, including three in a row.
