Staten Island Incident Involving Mayoral Candidate Zoran Mamdani

Democratic mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani encountered a troubling situation on Staten Island on Wednesday when local individuals directed anti-Semitic remarks towards him, specifically calling him “Jewish shit.”

Mamdani has a history of defending controversial slogans, including “Globalization of Intifadas” and “From the River to the Sea.” Tim Miller, host of “Bluework,” who was against the language ban that provoked backlash from Jewish advocacy groups and critics regarding Mamdani’s stance on Israel, commented on the incident. Conservative artist Scott Robbide expressed his discontent when Mamdani exited a restaurant, loudly accusing him of harboring animosity towards Jewish people and stating he was not welcome in the area.

“You are not welcome on this f*cking island. You are seeking a piece of sh*t that hates Jews,” shouted Robbide at Mamdani. He further insisted, “Hey, Mandandy! Can I talk to you? You’re not welcome here.”

In response, Robbide reiterated accusations, claiming, “You hate Jews. You hate this f*cking country,” and seemed to mention Tom Homan, the acting director of immigration and customs enforcement.

During a June interview with Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press,” Mamdani notably declined to disavow the phrase “globalization of intifadas.” He also stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could face arrest should he visit New York City and expressed his support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

On another occasion, in an appearance on MSNBC’s “Briefing with Jen Psaki,” Mamdani promised to boost funding for the city’s hate crime program by 800% in an effort to combat anti-Semitism.

Additionally, Mamdani secured the Democratic mayoral nomination by defeating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the June primary, amidst a competitive race that includes both Cuomo and current New York Mayor Eric Adams.
