Johnny Manziel Discusses Travis Kelce and the Evolving Sports Media Landscape

Johnny Manziel, the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, is quite aware of how much the sports media landscape has changed. His involvement in college football and his “Glory Days” podcast have given him insight into this evolution.

Recently, he expressed admiration for Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, particularly for his partnership with his brother, Jason Kelce, a former center for the Philadelphia Eagles. Their latest episode on the “New Heights” podcast featured guest Taylor Swift, who not only joined the Chiefs fanbase but also released her latest album.

However, as with most high-profile relationships, some critics labeled it a “distraction” for Kelce. Manziel disputes this notion, confident that Kelce’s focus remains on his professional responsibilities. He shared his perspective during a conversation about his sponsorship with Sling TV just ahead of the football season.

“Look, let’s be real. No one can deny how passionate he is about the game. He’s committed, week in and week out, for years,” Manziel stated. “Even if he’s in New York for dinner during the season, his love for football doesn’t waver.”

Manziel believes that amidst all the hype, Kelce is always focused on winning games, emphasizing that there are plenty of people on the Chiefs who bring that intensity to the field. “They’re just trying to make a living and do what they love, but it’s clear that winning matters to them,” he expressed.

Interestingly, Kelce isn’t the only athlete who’s ventured into media. Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons also hosts a podcast during the season, sharing candid thoughts about his team and the league.

Manziel appreciates hearing from those who are actively involved in the football experience. “These days, you have players transitioning from the field to the media, sharing their unique insights. It’s refreshing to hear from those who have been in the thick of it,” he said.

He also mentioned how discussions around football often go deeper, highlighting the personal side of the game—beyond just the plays. This sentiment mirrors what fans witnessed on “New Heights” when the couple was featured, pulling back the curtain on their high-profile relationship.

Yet, Manziel is clear in his belief that Kelce remains focused during game day, regardless of any outside noise. “He’ll always be locked in,” he assures.

On a related note, Manziel’s recent collaboration with Sling TV aims to promote diverse streaming options for football fans this season. The service now offers various packages, such as a one-day pass, a weekend pass, and a full week pass for comprehensive access.

Manziel believes that as a football follower, especially at the college level, fans shouldn’t have to spend excessively to catch games. He finds value in Sling TV’s flexibility, enabling viewers to choose plans that fit their viewing habits. “When I get notifications about games, I just want to watch the action, and it’s nice to have options without the hassle,” he said.
