Couple resided with the body of their partner for 18 months, using his money while dogs gnawed at the remains: statement

A couple from Colorado reportedly cohabitated with the decomposing body of their lover for over a year, while continuing to spend his Social Security benefits.

James Agnew, 55, and Suzanne Agnew, 57, reside in Lakeland and allegedly hid the remains of Troy’s partner, James O’Neill, 64, beneath an air mattress at their condo following his death in December 2023, according to an arrest affidavit.

Authorities uncovered this disturbing situation during a welfare check on July 3, prompted by O’Neill’s brother, who hadn’t heard from him. It was during this check that police found O’Neill’s dismembered body, linked to a complicated romantic triangle.

After the chilling find, Suzanne purportedly informed law enforcement that she hadn’t moved O’Neill’s body or contacted anyone after he passed away. She also mentioned that she and her husband decided to conceal O’Neill’s body because their Chihuahuas had started to nibble on it, police stated.

Reports indicated that the couple was utilizing O’Neill’s bank account and Social Security payments for several months prior to the discovery. During the welfare check, James allegedly impersonated O’Neill, claiming he didn’t want any police involvement with his family.

The pair faces multiple charges, including theft and tampering with a body, but they have not yet been charged regarding O’Neill’s death.

Suzanne mentioned to officers that she believed O’Neill died due to an unspecified medical condition. Although O’Neill was estranged from his family, his brother had recently reached out to inform him of an inheritance, according to reports.
