Josh Hamilton Reflects on 2011 World Series Moment
Former MLB star Josh Hamilton recently shared that during the 2011 World Series, he felt a divine influence guiding him. He recalled that the Holy Spirit promised he would hit a home run in the series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
“The Holy Spirit said he’d hit me a home run on the deck. The first pitch, the bang,” Hamilton mentioned during a podcast. This moment occurred in Game 6, where his performance helped the Texas Rangers take a 9-7 lead in the 10th inning, putting them ahead 3-2 in the series. Unfortunately for the Rangers, they fell short, ultimately losing the championship in seven games.
Hamilton’s journey hasn’t always been smooth. He opened up about his struggles with substance abuse, recalling a pivotal moment when his grandmother reached out with support that felt divine. “I love Grandma more than anything. She said, ‘Hey, we love you. You’re better than this. You can do great things.'” He described how this interaction seemed to clear his mind and led him to reconnect with his faith. “That’s when things started to turn around,” he emphasized, sharing how he turned to the Bible for guidance.
His baseball career was punctuated by highs and lows. After being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays, Hamilton faced significant challenges, including suspensions due to substance abuse issues. Though he made his MLB debut in 2006 with the Cincinnati Reds, it was after joining the Texas Rangers that he truly shined, making multiple All-Star appearances and winning the AL MVP in 2010.
Sadly, Hamilton’s struggles didn’t end with his retirement in 2015. In 2019, he faced legal troubles involving allegations of child abuse but maintained his innocence, expressing the difficulty of navigating family dynamics amid such accusations. He reflected on his dilemma about involving his children in court, saying, “I won’t be a good dad. I’ll fall on the proverb sword here for my family.”
Through his story, Hamilton continues to highlight themes of resilience, faith, and the complexities of personal struggles, showcasing a deeply human experience amid the highs and lows of his life.
