Upcoming Meeting Between Zelensky and Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Trump at the White House on Monday, following Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Trump has been in communication with Zelensky and various European leaders about the ongoing situation.
In a post on Truth Social early Saturday, Trump remarked, “The best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to end the war, and it often doesn’t stop.”
He noted, “President Zelensky will be coming to DC, the Oval Office on Monday afternoon. If everything goes well, we will schedule a meeting with President Putin,” adding a sense of anticipation regarding future discussions.
Zelensky has indicated support for a trilateral meeting of the three leaders in a post on the social platform X. His message emphasized the importance of American involvement in shaping the ongoing conflict: “President Trump has informed us of the key points discussed with Russian leaders. It is essential that America’s strength influences the development of the situation.”
He further stated, “On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C. to discuss all the details regarding the war’s end. I am thankful for the invitation.” It seems he is keen on addressing critical issues head-on.
Trump’s meeting with Putin on Friday aimed to explore a potential ceasefire agreement in Ukraine, coming more than three years after the Russian invasion of Eastern European nations, which was accelerated by troop movements near the border.
While Trump noted some progress was made during their discussions, he mentioned that no formal ceasefire agreement was achieved. He shared details about the atmosphere of the talks.
Trump hinted that Friday’s summit had laid the groundwork for future meetings, including ones involving Zelensky, stressing Ukraine’s role in future territorial decisions.
The upcoming meeting also serves as a reminder of Zelensky’s earlier trip to Washington this year, where Trump and the Vice President had made critical remarks regarding Ukrainian leaders and their expressions of gratitude for American support.
In recent weeks, Trump has voiced considerable frustration towards Putin and his ongoing military actions against Ukrainian cities, warning of “serious consequences” if a resolution isn’t reached swiftly. Yet, he has previously maintained that he enjoys a “great relationship” with Putin.
