Monica McNutt’s On-Air Mistake Goes Viral
ESPN host Monica McNutt made headlines over the weekend after an on-air blunder during a segment that featured an influencer. In this particular segment, she mistakenly referenced “Druski” while discussing a former Detroit Lions player, Barry Sanders.
“Jersey, let’s get in, because obviously this is tied to Chedure Sanders,” McNutt said, not realizing her error.
Deathbords quickly corrected her, stating, “No, no, no, no. This is Barry Sanders.”
Interestingly, the jersey McNutt referred to had “20” on the front. Typically, quarterbacks in the NFL can’t wear that number, though in college, they have more flexibility. Barry Sanders wore number 20 in college and was known for his impressive career in the NFL.
McNutt’s mix-up rapidly spread on social media, drawing criticism from notable figures like Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool, and Clay Travis, founder of Outkick.
This incident isn’t the first time McNutt faced backlash. In a past interview, she stated that being “a white girl from central America” enhanced the popularity of the WNBA, a comment that stirred some controversy.
While her error may have led to some laughs and reactions on social media, it’s a reminder that even seasoned hosts can slip up. Perhaps, it’s these moments that make live sports commentary so unpredictable.
